Yesteryear Serendipity

Do you ever find a photo with eerie similarities to a photo you’ve taken? Not of photos of the Taj Mahal or Grand Canyon, or the Eiffel Tower — finding similar photos of those wouldn’t be too freaky. What if you find spooky similarities to a set of elements you’d never expect to see together?

I took this photo a few months ago of an arrangement in our guest room, intending to post a commentary about things from yesteryear such as card catalogs from libraries and volumes of print encyclopedias. As all countries change, we leave things from yesteryear behind, and they get a new purpose of serving our nostalgia moods.

Now the eerie similarity. I found this photo in an email from One Kings Lane  promoting a Tastemaker Sale:

Shoe forms! Little wood drawers! Some open drawers! Red books! Square shelves!

One thing missing is I do not have butterflies and bugs pinned in frames in our guest room. I do not and will not. And the hands remind me of the tacky people who have rubber hands hanging out of the closed trunks of their cars, not just on Halloween but every day. So you won’t be seeing that in our guest room either. Imagine a guest waking up in the middle of the night and seeing a ghostly hand in the room? Not good.
