One night while strolling through my in-laws’ Chennai neighborhood, we found a little market. There in that little market we found something I’d been seeking for awhile — these mini paintings on Jaipur government stamp paper:

I bought more than I need. I’m having a hard time choosing which to leave out of a framed arrangement. So why not have YOU decide!?
Just leave a comment about which one you like best and tell why, by August 24. I’ll use Random Generator to choose a winning comment and that person will get the mini painting they like best! I will ship internationally, as people from many countries visit this blog.
Here are the five choices:
LOVERS

PARADE

ELEPHANT WITHOUT SCRIPT

ELEPHANT WITH SCRIPT

CAMEL

See how detailed these are:

They are unframed, and about 8.5 inches x 12 inches in size. There are some flaws on the paper, which I tried to show clearly in the photos above.
During the evening walk when I found these, something cool happened that isn’t so common in our increasingly mobile world today. Our nephew ran into a friend:

This friend is the son of a (formerly) boy my husband went to school with when he was growing up in Chennai! Except back then these neighborhood streets were relaxed and quiet any time of day. As you can see now, vehicles and headlights are pervasive and invasive.
That’s why I like things like these mini paintings that capture a bit of yesteryear.
Don’t forget to comment by Friday, August 24 midnight U.S. eastern time, for a chance to win! I’ll post the winner here on Saturday, August 25. See you then!

Ohhhh, these are so lovely! I’d be so very happy with any of the elephant ones as I do collect elephant art. I have been to Jaipur but never saw these with the gov. stamp on them. Very neat!
PS – It’s my birthday on Wednesday. It would be fun to have an elephant as a birthday surprise!
These prints are wonderful! It is so hard to choose. I have to go with the camel one, though, because camels have always been my favorite animal.
These are so nicely done! I’ve been reading your blog for a while and love it! But I enjoy your pinterest boards even more, they help me explore India and the Orient that I’m interested in so much:) I love the dark elephant picture.
I like lovers! The love between 2 people back in the Mughal Era was so pure and so simple.
Women adorned themselves with jewelry, bright colors and henna, how beautiful they were.
All your prints are beautiful and I feel each one tells a story.
I love elephants! The dark ones especially. As they remind me of all my time spent in India a smile comes to my face that will stay for hours.
I love the elephants! Having studied in Southeast Asia, they remind me of my time there. Love your blog and pinterest! Great work!
the elephants with the script is my favorite! they remind me the most of india. the script behind the painting makes it very unique. thanks for sharing
What a lovely find! I rather like the Parade one. My 3yo and I are going through a ‘horses and elephants’ phase right now and those majestic creatures are popping up everywhere in our house (and in our stories). I’d love to win that for him! Thank you for the giveaway!
What a thoughtful idea. Wish I’d been there to buy them. After scrolling up and down alot, decided on ‘the Parade’ all the fine detail, scrumptious colour and movement in that particular painting. Reminds me of Northern Thailand 20 odd years ago and waving our children off as they disappeared on top of an elephant into the jungle (were we nuts?!).
What a lovely giveaway…my vote is for elephant without script…loved the color & detailing & ofcourse the majestic elephant!!
These are just gorgeous. I love the elephant with script. Living in the US I have always wanted to travel the world and now I have a two year old. We love to paint together and I like showing him various cultures art work and any of these would be great examples and additions to our lives! Right now we are able to enjoy one fabric painting from Indonesia and one African painting from an unknown location, thanks for sharing these beauties either way as we enjoyed looking at them today and having my two year old describe the elephants colorand what was happening in each scene!!
I love the energy of the parade painting – it’s beautiful!
I adore the painting of the lovers. I’m an Indian living in Germany now and this is exactly the sort of lovely, heart-warming piece of home that would make my day! I am a huge fan of your pinterest posts and got to your blog for the first time today :) Thanks!
Hi! It’s hard to choose only one all of them are so beautiful! I wish I could get one elephant because I have a collection of tiny elephants in my living room.
Hi, I would pick Elephant with Script for me. Thanks.
Hi Deb, these mini paintings are beautiful, thank you for stopping by in my blog and leaving a nice comment, I could not reply you there as you appear to me as a non-reply blogger. I like your blog as well you have very nice things. I’m glad you liked my project. I am travelling to India in 2 weeks time, I’ll be in Goa. Best regards, Erika
I love the Elephant with Script as it makes me think of the beauty of India. The colours are some of my favourites.
It is difficult to choose – they are all beautiful. i adore elephants, so maybe the one with script – otherwise, yes – I choose the camels. I love the humour and the feeling of untold story. What are those two doing with the big umbrella – are they waiting for someone? Love that I’ve found your blog. Spent 3 months in India some years ago and have a real hankering to return for another extended stay. Hopefully next year
I love them all, but I think the one with the lovers would look lovely framed and hung in my boudoir!
I love this style so much that I also bought a few while in India and they ended up being the art inspiration for a children’s book I wrote!
Gah! I missed the deadline. I liked Elephant without script because you can see the stamp under its back foot, but also because the other ones seem to go well together (for framing) but this one stands out as brighter and different, so maybe it would look odd framed with the others. I’m a dork, I know. …wonder who won!?
Beautiful collection.
Thank you so much! :)
