Just returned from a business trip to Orlando. I’d like to say that enormous corporate parks like Disney are not my thing. But then again a corporation has some rights to Angkor Wat, which I loved visiting and have written about many times here. So maybe I shouldn’t get too snobby. Then again, that corporation did not build Angkor Wat …
Disney did deliver some inspiration: tented ceilings! Like this one at Flying Fish on the Disney boardwalk, which I captured with Instagram before diners filled the room:

And there was an enormous tented ceiling in the lobby of the Disney Swan and Dolphin hotel:

You can play with a 360-degree view of the lobby and its tented ceiling here.
The addition of a tented ceiling can make a room feel entirely different. More cozy. More exotic! Here’s one at the Oberoi Rajvilas in Jaipur:

Check out this colorful Middle Eastern style tented room, created by Liller Interiors inside a new conservatory:

A cascading tented ceiling, found at Elle Decor:

This one is very Arabian Nights, and believe it or not it’s hidden inside a Vermont clapboard exterior! You can stay here at Twin Farms:

This space was only temporary, but thankfully can be enjoyed forever in cyberspace. It’s the 2009 Prime Time Emmys Green Room, designed by Martyn Lawrence-Bullard:

A photo of the patterned and tented ceiling at La Gazelle D’Or Hotel, snapped by visitor Tents and Camels:

Our apartment in India has the wackiest placement of ceiling beams, plus the beams are all different widths and depths. A challenge to deal with when decorating, for sure. These rooms inspire me to think about tenting the ceiling of the main living area.
